Reading is so important for children, and I want to make sure my students have every opportunity to succeed. The first three years of schooling are critical for students' future educational success, and nearly 65% of U.S. fourth graders read at or below the basic grade level. Having books in the school that the students actually WANT to read will not only raise their reading ability, it will also increase their love of school and learning. I do not want my students to fall behind due to a lack of resources. Currently my library consists of around 300 books, fiction and nonfiction. It has not been updated in at least six years due to lack of funding. 300 may sound like a lot, but the standard amount of books a school has should be at least 10 books per student - meaning I should have 1,500 books. My wish list only includes picture books, as that is what the majority of my students read. I hope to have future lists for chapter books and nonfiction. Please help me buy these picture books; the children deserve it.
