  • Math Skills With Math Centers

    Funded Jul 2, 2022

My students, my school and myself thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generosity. My students were in "aw" when they saw the math manipulatives. I was most interested in providing for them the Base Ten disks. These help tremendously in their understanding of place value. The disks come in 1,000's, 100's, 10's and 1's. It is a difficult concept, but the disks have helped them in mastering the concept.

These manipulatives will be used in my classroom throughout the year as we learn all of the math standards for second grade. These will also be used in my class for many years to come.

Thank you again for these and for the other things you sent. I also received colorful, circular seating pads for my library. They love those as well. It has made their reading experience a more pleasurable one in our classroom library.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Castro-Paniagua

  • The Most Welcoming Classroom

    Funded Nov 5, 2021

My students and I thank you for all the classroom supplies we received. Our plant manager delivered the boxes to our room, the students were intrigued. I opened up the boxes as they were in recess and I put all items on the table. When they returned from recess they were in 'AWW'. I explained to the class that a generous person(s) donated all of the items. They were so excited and could not believe someone thought they were special enough to receive a gift.

I am especially grateful for the stool. I use it everyday since I placed it in the front of the class beside the projector. My students love their individual whiteboard erasers. We use the personal whiteboards for language arts and for math. Prior to receiving the personal whiteboard erasers, students were using paper towels. It's the little things that make them happy.

We are looking forward to the "tell time" math unit so we can use the clock that tests their knowledge. The clock has a sweet childlike voice perfect for my second grade class. As a first year teacher, the help received by the donors is invaluable.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Castro-Paniagua

My second-grade students need to learn basic English as the majority of my students are newcomers. All of my newcomers, need to learn the basics: numbers, letter names, and letter sounds. The goal is: that all of the resources will help me get my students reading, adding, and subtracting by the end of the school year. The Bingo games will be used to work with them in small groups reviewing letter sounds, letter names, homophones, rhyming, and basic math skills like adding and subtracting. The library will be placed in front of the room and students can come and sit on a mat or a floor chair. The bouncy balls will be used to support students who are having trouble completing a task, the bouncy balls are used to keep them concentrated. Whiteboards will be used to support sentence writing and spelling. The storage sacks are needed in my classroom because their desks are really small and their textbooks are getting mistreated. We are starting the unit on learning the 50 States and their capitals. The globe will be a fantastic way to study this unit. Teaching for the first time is difficult and not having all the resources at my disposal makes my job even harder. Many resources are needed to help my students in this high need school I teach at.
