I am requesting these funds/ items to use in furthering my professional development and expertise in the area of pediatric feeding. The items and the skill set I will obtain from the listed materials will allow me to better serve the families on my caseload who struggle daily to get their toddler to eat and create healthy relationships with foods and meal times. Feeding difficulties are becoming more and more prevalent in the pediatric population with researchers finding "Approximately 20-50% of normally developing children, 1-7 and 70-89% of children with developmental disabilities, 8-10 are reported to experience some type of feeding problems". My heart is heavy when I think of all the families who fear their little one will end up on a feeding tube or receive a diagnosis of failure to thrive due to the child's behavioral or more often sensory difficulties related to food. A healthy diet full of vitamin rich foods is a pillar to anyone's well being. Unfortunately those vitamin rich foods are often the textures, colors, and tastes our little ones with sensory difficulties avoid most. As an early intervention speech therapist I will use these items/ tools with families (providing free materials to those in need) and use the educational materials to coach families and help them understand and overcome their toddlers feeding difficulties. With your help and generosity. I know I can create a difference in the lives of many families and toddlers to come. Thank you!
