This project is inspired by my school's students. Each year I want to help my school's elementary students to grow in so many ways beyond just that of academics. This is a great age to start building more responsibility, leadership, independence, and other great qualities and skills. One way to increase academics, social-emotional learning, and other areas that are so crucial to growth, is through the use of flexible seating. Flexible seating will be a wonderful addition to our school computer lab, in order to encourage the students to take more ownership over their learning. No matter their grade, the students will be able to find seating that will help them learn best. Many students around this age are still working towards maintaining their energy, focus, and sitting still for longer periods of time. My goal is to be able to provide options in my classroom space for kids to use each year. The flexible or alternative seating could be used throughout the day whether the students are at their desks or learning and working in other parts of the room. Because students have been away from the classroom for so long (some since March 2020), I know that there will be struggles and obstacles to overcome that are more apparent than ever. Students deserve to have the best learning experience possible, and I'm sure flexible seating will help my students. I will make sure from the start that my students know that the seating options are tools for learning, and will use them properly. I have requested items such as wobble cushions, floor seats, and beanbag chairs. Thank you for your support of our school and students!
