My public education in America has prepared me to take many opportunities to meet the needs of children and education within my community. As teachers, we must be flexible in our approach to learning. Each student is unique, requiring us to be creative in tailoring lessons to meet their individual needs. Essentially, in order for a child to reach their fullest potential, a teacher must develop personal relationships with both the child and their families. Likewise, I take into consideration children’s emotions and parental input when creating individualized education plan goals, as well as their geographical location. Most of my students have never witnessed snow. Therefore, it can be difficult to relate to the experience of warming up next to a fireplace, like many other areas in our country. We read books that often refer to snow, during the winter months, but nothing compares to the ability to demonstrate what an actual fireplace is used for. Having a pretend fireplace in my homeliving area will give me the opportunity to have my students nestle up to read a good book, with a warm cup of pretend cocoa. It also provides a visual to explain how a fireplace can serve as a main source of heat, during a winter storm. Through Donors Choose, I am able to invest in the appropriate materials and resources, engineering a more effective route of understanding, tailored toward their individual academic success.
