This year my class is exploring reading a variety of different genres through reading workshop. Most kids love to read fiction and nonfiction books. Poetry tends to be left off their list of favorites, due to lack of exposure. I have many books in all genres except, poetry! Poetry is a great way for readers to learn language patterns and how to make inferences. I have 24 students and would love to have a variety of poetry books by various authors available to each of them to check out and read. Getting books in the hands of children is all it would take to get them hooked on reading poetry! Once they are reading it, then they will have a better understanding of writing poetry as well. Poetry is an amazing genre!
