  • Summer Reading Part I

    Funded May 23, 2022

My students love that they are able to decode words and segment words. They look at the picture clues and sound out words sounds that they know to attempt to figure out words in the text. They are learning about the features of stories and sequencing events. Some of the other skills they are learning is reading high frequency words.

Reading is engaging in our classroom. The students are asking and answering questions about the text. They are making predictions on what they think will happen as well as reading along.

Several of the students enjoyed the Caldercott Award books they received. They were allowed to choose the books they wanted for summer reading and they selected some of the books that we read during our phonics time.

I am excited to see their enthusiasm about reading. I would like to thank you for making this happen for us.”

The students are using the material to continue to read and practice other literacy skills over the summer. They will continue to have literature conversations about the features of a story They will complete book reports with story features. My students will continue to segment, and decode to strengthen their reading skills.

When my students saw the material they were overjoyed and excited that they received books and supplies to go to first grade. They are looking forward to the new things they will learn and feel prepared.

These materials are a gift to be prepared for their new class. They will be the reading material as described above. The other items they will use beginning in September to journal, store reading material and work on various activities cities as first graders!!!

Thank you for believing in this project and making it happen for my kindergarten students. I appreciate you giving them resources to enhance their skills over the summer and get a jumpstart on first grade.”

  • Phonics and Literacy Library

    Funded Mar 22, 2022

Thank you for helping us get books that support our phonics program. We read the same story multiple times. As a large group we read a story and sequenced the events on chart paper. We also do picture walk previewing stories.

On another day the students recall the sequence of events prior to me reading them. I read to confirm if they gave the sequence of events in order. Next, the students were given an opportunity sequence a story by drawing pictures and labeling them. They also needed to write sentences sequencing these events.

Many of the students love the the stories. They enjoy that the stories rhyme. They enjoy sequencing the events. I know the students like the stories a lot because for the stepping up I did another grant and allowed the students to choose from the books ordered and a few off them choose the ones we read in class. Thank you so much.”

  • Giving from Their Hearts

    Funded Mar 21, 2022

My students and I are using the new resources in several ways. One way is to show gratitude and give gifts to their loved ones. Another way they are using them is to express creativity and learning to write words with various materials. A third way to explore science concepts of living and non living things.

When the students first saw the materials they had a lot of questions. They wanted to know where the items came from and what we are going to do with them. I told them to wait and see.

A part of our science and reading unit is about what makes things alive. I was able to use some of these materials to show the students the features of living and non living things. As an extension the students were able to help loved ones take care of one of the gifts. They planted and took care of the plants. They were also able to write and talk to their grown up about how they know things are living as well as how to take care of the plants.

Thank you so much for making this possible for us!!!”

  • Printing Made Easy

    Funded Feb 6, 2022

This printer that you made possible for my class and students has had an impact that you will not believe. The printer has made it possible for my students to see images in color to support the curriculum. They are able to identify words based on the curriculum.

We use word walls for various subjects and the students are able to see those images come to life like images of a researcher, fruits and fish. In addition, we are able to make anchor charts with real images that the children are able to relate to things they see in the real world. It is exciting for them to see things in color opposed to black and white. They are able to distinguish things like the parts of a plant which we are studying.

My ENL students are especially warmed to this new printer. All the students benefit from it but they need the extra visuals to make connections to things in English.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Rodnell
