  • Surviving Middle School Through Relationship Building

    Funded Jan 18, 2022

Thank you so much for finding this project! I am excited to see the positive impact on students that these items will have. At a time when so many seem to be against public education and educators in general, your support is that much more important.

Thank you, again, for your support”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ross

  • Calm Kids Learn More: Soothing Activities to Help Kids Self-Regulate

    Funded Sep 16, 2021

Thank you so much for helping me provide tools for students to use in the classroom that allow them to take a break and learn to manage their emotions. The items that were included in my project were part of kits that were prepared for each classroom. Each kit included various calming tools and fidget items, and students were taught how to use each piece, along with breathing practices to help manage emotions that were on the brink of becoming out of control. Helping students learn to manage their emotions appropriately is the foundation of Social Emotional Learning, and the Pandemic recovery that is ongoing. Your contributions are a huge part of making this year as successful as possible for our scholars.

    Thank you so very much!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ross

These materials will be used to create individual calm kits for our classrooms. Students will be able to take short breaks, disconnect and practice mindfulness, then re-engage in the instructions. This will prevent maladaptive behaviors from erupting and disturbing the learning environment for the entire class. Calming kits have been proven to decrease the number of discipline issues that result in students being removed from the classroom. Helping students become self-aware and providing them with an opportunity to self-regulate before their emotions reach crisis level, improves the learning opportunities for everyone.
