Essential Lab Supplies for Middle School
Funded Sep 30, 2023These materials have really helped us do hands on activities in science class! My 8th graders got to model erosion and deposition with the stream table and they saw how the angle and shape of a stream bed changed those processes! The microscopes will be used soon with my 7th graders as we transition into learning about animals and plants, and I am super excited to have my kids watch the process of sap turning into syrup over a day or two with the heat plate and stir bar!
These items have really sparked curiosity and engagement in my classroom!”

Classroom Fish Tank: Final Touches
Funded Sep 13, 2021Thanks so much for your contributions towards our classroom fish tank! We are now able to do maintenance easily and efficiently, and our fish tank ecosystem is cycling well. My students love to interact with the tank. They help clean the tank, feed the fish, and they are so excited to spot the different species interacting!
All of the fish have unique personalities, and my students are especially overjoyed by the rare sighting of some of our nocturnal species, kuhli loaches and a bristlenose catfish.”

Classroom Fish Tank: Interacting With the Ecological Cycle!
Funded Aug 11, 2021Thank you so much for helping fund our classroom fish tank! My students are so excited every time I add new fish to the tank! We have already started to explore the nitrogen cycle. Students wondered why we couldn't put fish in the tank right after it was filled. We had discussions on the bacteria we added to the tank and how they help to support the fish. We also had a good discussion about why fish in bowls often don't live long, due to lack of filtration and the nitrogen cycle.
My students often visit the tank when they arrive to class, and keep count to make sure all the fish are healthy and well. They also help to reduce algae on the glass by scrubbing it during the day. Students also get the opportunity to feed the fish; they are always really surprised by how little they need to feed the fish.
I have loved how this fish tank has inspired my students. Many have ideas as to what sorts of fish I should add, and will do extensive research to find out if they are compatible with the fish in the tank already! I can't wait to see how else this project can impact my students!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Rand
