Hands-On Science and Math
Funded Sep 29, 2021The hands on materials have been a great supplement to the math curriculum. When the materials were first introduced, my class responded with much enthusiasm. Any time students can have fun playing games and learn at the same time is a double win.
Students had the opportunity to engage with Bingo games bi weekly. Multiplication and Division Fact fluency are essential skills needed for fourth grade. Engaging in these games allowed students to review and practice their knowledge of the facts in a fun non threatening environment. Every one had a chance to participate review and learn. Everyone was a winner!
The Multiplication and Division machines were used as a center or partner activity to help students that were struggling with fact fluency as a way to review and prepare for upcoming timed tests.
These manipulative had an overall positive impact to increase student motivation for learning their multiplication and division facts. I also observed an increase in student achievement on weekly pop quizzes and tests with multiplication facts and division facts. I will continue to use these hands on manipulatives next year with my students to continue to improve their performance with multiplication and division Concepts.”
With gratitude,
