This is my first full school year teaching in the classroom, and there are only a few, and very old books that have been provided by my school. While teaching virtually last year I realized that the students were more excited to read when the characters in the stories looked like them, or told stories they could relate to. This inspired me to not just bring more books into my classroom, but books centered around diversity, inclusion, culture, and more. I already have new bookshelves and bins, now we are only missing the books! By donating to this project, these books will also support my reluctant and emergent-readers, as they provide picture support, and relatable stories! Given that most of my students were virtual all of last year, I have been working hard to create reading units/activities that are both effective and fun, as being back in the school building will be a huge adjustment for them. Students will have opportunities to read these books in whole-group settings as read-alouds, and independently through our classroom library. Please help me start a "Reading Revolution" in my classroom!
