As a first year teacher, trying to create a warm and welcoming learning environment for my third graders is very important to me. When the classroom environment is inviting to the children they become more successful in their academic endeavors. I plan to create this environment by use of alternative lighting, a clean and well-organized classroom, and supplies readily available to them. We keep the lights off in the room and use warm lighting throughout the class. They love how cozy this makes the room feel but we do have a few dark spots in the room where I would like to place a table lamp for better lighting. A lot of my students do not have the financial support from home to supply things like, scissors, headphones, pencil boxes, etc., so having these supplies for them will help them be stay organized and ready to learn all the time. Lastly, with a small classroom and 25 students packed in, the carpet floor is difficult to be kept clean. My students have class jobs to help create purpose in our room. They are also learning responsibility and how to become more independent. By having the necessary tools and supplies to complete their jobs, we can be more efficient with our time and spend more time learning.
