Funded Aug 13, 2021The emotional and mental impact of the cooldown space has been uplifting and provided a safe space for all students. The ability to deal with difficult emotions, toggle complex family and personal problems, or just to take a nap due to a difficult time at home the night before have made students feel comforted and cared for in educational settings. Students are often confused when told that they are allowed to decompress and work on their emotions by drawing, taking a nap, or listening to music but, leave the space feeling energized and grateful for the opportunity to unwind, reflect and refocus.
Students admire and feel calm in the atmosphere and also like to gather in the space to discuss issues or resolve conflicts apart from other classmates. Recently, after the all classwork has been completed students are also gathering in the space to play games such as Uno, Scrabble, and Jenga which increases their social health but also enables collaboration and connection. We appreciate all that you have done to make this dream, thought and idea come true to us, our peers and our school community”
With gratitude,
Ms. M Silcott
