  • Developing Engineers and Inquisitive Minds

    Funded Aug 30, 2022

The Kiwi Crates were a massive hit! The students were beyond excited to have the opportunity to utilize the materials!

After spending time using our core curriculum materials studying human body systems, students were able to put their engineering skills to the test to build robotic versions of their hands!

Students used the easy to follow instructions and developmentally appropriate materials to build and rebuild their robotic claws to complete challenges such as picking up balls of different sizes and materials. I am hoping to obtain more Kiwi crates in the future!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Bergren

  • Multicultural Books Matter: Developing a Diverse Classroom Library

    Funded Aug 13, 2021

Thank you for donating to the multicultural book project! My classroom of diverse fourth graders were over the moon when the boxes of books arrived. They are avid readers who have a profound interest in learning about where they and others have come from.

Through your generosity, my students now have books with characters that they can relate to within the classroom. My classroom population represents many different cultures and the books that have been provided for the students are helping all of us to gain a better understanding of one each others backgrounds.

I have been sharing many of these books as read alouds with lessons that are associated with them. We have engaged in thoughtful conversations and meaningful reflections about what we know about different cultures and what we still want to learn. I look forward to continuing this important work and helping to mold wordly citizens.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Bergren

The books selected for this project will help create a more balanced classroom library. Working in a school with students from various backgrounds, it’s important for each student to have books with characters that look like them. Additionally, these titles will create an opportunity for students to be exposed to cultures they are not yet familiar with and provide a basis for timely and important conversations about race and diversity. Some of these books will be shared throughout the year as targeted read aloud titles and others will be placed in the leveled library as independent choice options.
