First grade is all about learning to read and love books! Students are more inclined to read when the classroom library is a relaxing place and the books reflect students' diverse backgrounds and experiences. Also, most of my students have spent more than a year out of school and will need time and support to adjust to school rules and routines. A class library with comfortable seating and engaging, inclusive books will act as a safe space for our young students. Every day in our class, students will have opportunities to select books, read on their own, share books with teachers or classmates, and spend time reading or resting in the library.
