The goal of the safe space is to provide an opportunity for students to receive the support they need socially and emotionally. They will receive support through individual and group counseling. The room will also be utilized for students to take a brain break and as an incentive for exhibiting positive behaviors and utilizing the coping skills they will be taught. Each item chosen will provide an opportunity for the counseling experience to be enhanced. When students are in a traditional classroom, they are not always allowed the opportunity to use manipulatives, such as the sensory fidget toys while they work. They are also not allowed to choose their seating. When they come in the safe space they will have the option of sitting in a chair or on the exercise balls while they are meeting with the School Social Worker and Psychologist. The safe space will be game themed, the posters will provide an opportunity for the students to feel like they are in a different space then a traditional classroom. The liquid floor tiles will be utilized to meet sensory needs.
