The learning need for my classroom is the design of physical space as a mechanism for supporting student-centered learning and personalized instruction. My kiddos are so lively and energetic. Since they are so high spirited it causes them to become restless in their seats all day. This pandemic has caused these kids to have a whirlwind of experience when it comes to a “traditional” classroom setting. To help my students learn amid the pandemic I could use flexible seating. I think this is a good way to blend the classroom with at home learning since this is what they have been accustomed to during the pandemic. Research has shown that everyone has different learning styles and preferences. If I can meet their needs for what best works for them as individuals it can also create a well flowing environment for the classroom overall. Flexible seating provides students with the learning need of being able to move. When they are standing, leaning, rocking, wobbling, etc. it increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow, and core strength as well as calming adhd and anxiety. In turn this helps keep their young minds more alert and focused. In addition to keeping them focused it will also give them a sense of empowerment knowing that they have some degree of choice when it comes to their learning environment. This has been proven to promote the quality of education.
