I plan to use these materials in my guided reading groups daily. As I have mentioned above, my students struggle greatly with their reading. I have seen students succeed with the right amount of practice and materials. These materials would go into special bins labeled “Guided Reading Books”. Initially, every child is tested with Fountas and Pinnell leveled readers for the first week of school. Once I know my students reading levels I will group them together and choose one of the books that would best fit them in a reading group. I plan to target phonics and vocabulary daily within these reading groups. I also plan to focus on comprehension by asking questions about the text. My goal is to have every student in my class move up two reading levels by the end of the year!
