The materials used in our project will help my students become better visual storytellers. We will use the Bunch O Balloons, Paddle Toss and Catch Ball Set, and hula hoops to create a Photo Olympics relay wherein the students can set their cameras to capture beautiful images that tell a story. Silly items like the panty hose will be secured on the top of studentsʻ heads and with the use tennis balls, knock down water bottles. Hilarity will be a natural side effect, and photographers will need to have an eye for not just whatʻs on the field, but the surrounding audience. Activities with the bubble makers, water blasters, and pullback vehicles will help students to understand light and shutter speed. The use of reflectors will aid students in using light to enhance the environment and their subjects. The Photo Olympics and the use of unconventional items will stretch photographers in their ability to tell stories using the camera as a tool. By donating to our project, the students will have a low stakes, yet fun opportunity to practice their craft. They can continue to become more confident as photographers. In times where much of the students level of confidence is low, providing a place where they can continue to reflect and work in teams will be an incredible shift. Itʻll be a win-win situation.
