If you were to walk into any classroom in the country you will undoubtedly see 2 staples of educational classroom decor: anchor charts and motivational posters. For those that don't know, anchor charts are those posters that teachers tape to the wall after carefully using their best handwriting to scribble helpful hints. Some anchor charts stay up for a short time so that we can focus on a specific skill, others join the esteemed motivational posters of my liking that have earned a permanent spot on the wall. But there's a problem with both of these classroom features. The posters, with all their wisdom and helpful advice, blur into the background as the school year goes by. Students simply get used to them and forget that they are there. Do you know what won't blur into the background? A giant monitor playing a loop of motivation along with a mix of new and classic anchor charts! Think of it like those waiting rooms that were too cheap to spring for TV and play a picture slideshow instead. You STILL find yourself looking at those screens like a moth to a flame. Only my screen will be showing a mix of educational and motivational guidance.
