Our class is comprised of the most vulnerable students in our population and each student has an adult support for the whole day. Returning to school campus with 1,400 of their peers can be overwhelming for our students. We’ve developed a schedule of activities to help keep our students feeling safe and cared for and promote meaningful learning. These materials will help our students readjust to school life, post COVID-19, by allowing our students to choose their tasks for the day, create their own visual schedules, and add breaks when they think they need them. Group and individual activities will involve familiar tasks found in their programs to ease them into the new setting. To ensure frustration levels are minimal, each task should have well-functioning items including dust pans, mops, brooms, and vacuums. We’ll also need supplies to complete daily living and basic life skills such as dish soap and laundry detergent. Our community activities will promote camaraderie and a sense of belonging throughout the year.
