The materials I am requesting are to support our students' learning in the classroom. Our Communication-Social Skills program supports students with diagnoses of Autism Spectrum Disorder, Language Impairment, Developmental Delays, and more. A sensory-motor room filled with strategic activities will help build regulation skills and confidence in the classroom. Many students have difficulty with sensory progressing and regulation--what this means is they often are overloaded with sights, sounds, and movement, have difficulty controlling his/her movement to complete a task, and often crave deep input by engaging in activities that are unsafe or inappropriate. Myself and my school-based team are building a sensory-motor movement to teach our students to coordinate his/her movements which will improve fine/gross motor skills and writing in the classroom, to regulate self in different environments, and to obtain the sensory input his/her body craves in an organized, safe environment. The body first has to be regulated and sensory needs met before learning can take place. Your support will help us reach the unique learning needs of our students.
