We finally returned to school and all of our students are safely back to in-person learning after a year of pandemic learning due to COVID. My students, in particular, attended school in-person last year but primarily remained in my classroom or in classes with very few students. As a Deaf Education teacher, it is my honor to be able to work with students to help them learn, grow, and achieve their academic and social goals. Flexible seating and a magnetic whiteboard will allow them to take charge of their academic and social decisions during independent and small group work sessions. These items will allow students to choose where and how they want to learn (i.e. sitting on a swivel chair, floor, or other flexible seating provided), and be able to work on interactive activities that utilize the magnetic whiteboard. A large-sized digital clock will help students recognize and keep track of the time in my classroom. This makes telling time accessible for my students. As a Deaf student, it is impossible to take notes and attend to the teacher or interpreter at the same time. Having access to printed notes will allow the students to remain more engaged in the lesson without the fear of missing important information. Therefore, I am asking for printer ink to allow access to quick printing of notes and other required materials. Flashing doorbells will help students who are Deaf know when someone is knocking on the door or entering a classroom. This also introduces them to an important device they will need throughout their lives as well as introduce Deaf cultural aspects to their mainstream classmates and teachers.
