Our curriculum has a special focus on learning through an artistic, creative and imaginative lens. The students have been successful in maintaining a beautiful connection to one another while navigating distance learning, and they were able to have a full year despite the challenges. However, most of the richness of our hands-on art projects became second priority to the academic subjects. Typically, grade 4 is when we bring embroidery to the children. After a year and a half of screens and learning through technology, it would be really special to teach the art of working with needle and thread. Such a time-honored skill can provide many benefits to our students: stress relief, artistic expression, a lesson in patience and focus, a boost in confidence, and even a means of income. Embroidery is a classic skill that continues to benefit generations of artists and I hope that I can develop this hobby with my students this year.
