Encouraging and inspiring young children to get comfortable, pick-up a book, read a great book, and write their own books is the goal behind my "ask." I want my students to look forward to independent reading time and choose to sit and read during free-choice. I believe flexible seating will encourage students to sit down with a great book and read! Instilling a life long love of stories, books, and literature is a goal I have for every first grader in my classroom. My school does not have the funds available to purchase hard back books for classroom shelves and classroom libraries. I believe my students deserve beautiful and rich books. I know they will enjoy listening to the stories, reading the stories, and looking at the beautiful illustrations. hese books and seating will provide a foundation for our focus on reading and writing this school year and many school years in the future. My students will read, be read to, and also write their own books. By the end of first grade, they will "publish" their own books and become authors and illustrators. I believe this project can be successful with the gift of flexible seating and literature.
