3K Bounces and Jumps Away Winter Blues
Funded Jan 18, 2024Finally, the day has arrived to unpack our new trampoline and basketball hoop. I quickly set it up to have it ready for my students for the next day. Upon their arrival to school, I let them know their was a special surprise waiting for them. We took turns saying letters that could be in the word that would reveal the surprise. When we completed the word, I show them a photo of the trampoline. We all are clapping and smiling. I asked my students had they ever seen a trampoline and what could we do with it. Then, it was time to get moving and jump the wiggles out. Children are smiling and laughing as they take their turn jumping on the trampoline. A child gives me a thumbs after I ask him how he feels after jumping on trampoline.
Thank you for providing this amazing opportunity for my 3K students. At a glance, you just see children jumping on trampoline or taking turns throwing the ball in the hoop. They are just having fun and playing with their friends. However, we know they are strengthening their coordination and balance. They are increasing their heart rate, circulation of oxygen and overall improving their mood. Because of your generous support, I am able to help my students feel better physically and mentally every day through movement.”

Funded Sep 16, 2021My students were very excited when they saw the calm center in the classroom. I explained that these toys were a gift to help us learn about feelings. They were curious to see all the new toys and all of them wanted to go visit the center. They took turns to freely explore all the materials on the shelf and share how they felt.
When I introduced the Mood Meter, I used the Emotiblocks to demonstrate the various emotions. We encouraged the students to try to copy the feelings shown. Then, they demonstrated their happy, sad, angry facial expressions. My students had fun changing the feelings on the different Emotiblocks. The fidget monster has been a favorite for one of my new students. He will bring it every day to large group and keep it in his hands. Another student takes a soft baby doll and hugs it during their daily nap time. Some of my students choose to sit in the calm center with a book or dimple toy. I love that my students independently use the center throughout the school day.
When a student is at the calm center, we are providing time for them to process their feelings and an opportunity for them to self-soothe. My students know this center is always open for them whenever they feel like using it. Thanks to the generous donations my students get a chance to make choices that impact how they feel and strengthen their self-regulation skills. Thank you for helping me show my students the importance of acknowledging feelings and discovering how they want to calm their bodies in a safe manner.”
