I am a first year Special Education teacher. My students will be learning both academically and in a life skills setting. Special Education requires a somewhat different take on teaching and learning, in a lot of instances. Each student, is on a different level of learning, from what they "should know" for their age and grade. I want these resources to help my aides and I, to what best fosters learning, no matter the style that takes on, tactilely, kinesthetically, auditorily and/or visually. We don't all learn the same, but we all deserve the same chance to learn and EXCEL. Whether in inclusion, on their own, or with an aide or a self-contained classroom, each student will know they're valued and deserve the chance to be their best self in the academic setting. These tools will provide just that. Each student has an IEP (Individualized Education Plan) and have goals to meet. Some examples of what a goal might look like is, counting to 10 or learning the ABC's for a second grader. Some students will be learning shapes and colors and expanding their fine motor skills, like holding a spoon and feeding themselves. Being able to see and touch 3 blocks, as appose to just counting to 3 and then adding 2 more on to make 5, takes learning to the next level. Puzzles, blocks and manipulatives aide in their learning process.
