Every day our students are bombarded by messages in the media of what they are supposed to look like, dress like, and be like. Our "I Am" garden is designed to combat those negative messages and fill them with positive self-affirming messages to help them embrace their own uniqueness and personal power. My vision for this garden is that it will be filled with student-created art containing powerful messages such as "I am brave," "I am compassionate," "I am inspiring," and more! I envision our students meandering through the garden each morning, as they make their way to class, reading and absorbing these positive affirmations, shaping their mindsets for the day. Starting their day with a positive mindset will open them up to limitless possibilities and allow them to achieve their fullest potential. The art supplies requested will be used by our students to create the garden art (with self-affirming messages) as a culminating activity of their social-emotional learning.
