This year students are coming to school with varying experiences. I want my students to feel welcomed and excited about returning to in-person learning. Children love to listen to stories and to read about real people, places, animals, and events. This project will help my students have access to different kinds of reading materials (fiction and non-fiction) to encourage reading as both a habit and a passion and to build relationships amongst each other. Scholastic News Magazines will give my students the opportunity to engage in and with informational texts. The science, social studies, and health topics will also encourage students to be critical thinkers as they read and learn about the world around them. The digital component will aid in extending the learning and sharing at home. The high-interest literature will be used to spark lively class discussions to encourage conversations that nurture a strong classroom community. Books invite students to new worlds and experiences. They have the power to foster empathy and understanding of others.
