The students I work with often need help navigating school in order to perform to the best of their ability. Thankfully, our state mandates that it is the public school's responsibility to provide free and appropriate education to all students. The key word is "appropriate". We must ensure that every students' individual needs are met and that necessary services are provided. As a school psychologist, I assess which students are eligible for special services and help teachers feel equip in individualizing their support. I frequently print academic and behavioral interventions for teachers to use in their classrooms. In addition, I am required to print necessary documents for special education meetings, such as consent forms and my psychoeducational evaluation reports. Having a printer in my office would allow me to efficiently perform these tasks. During these meetings, the parent or guardian often asks questions about things they can do at home to support their child. If my students are properly supported, they are able to thrive and grow in a number of areas: cognitively, behavioral, socially, and academically. Consistency is key for achieving positive growth, and if parents are given more tools to help their child, it will likely improve their performance in school. I would love to start providing them with more ideas that I have found through my research on the web.
