In 5th grade, students are introduced to the Design Process. Unfortunately, the reality of the design process is often lost because they have no prior background knowledge of this and no life experiences yet. A 3D printer with filament would be an excellent way for my students to see the design process in action! They can create their model and then test/improve it! I have many students who learn better with hands-on learning, so I know this would bring excitement and a desire to learn. My students live in a low socio-economic small-town community in Ohio. I do my best to provide hands-on learning as much as possible, but the cost of products for the labs comes out of my pocket. Teaching 130 students a day, the cost of labs can be quite expensive. My students deserve and NEED these hands-on learning experiences.
