After a year of distance learning many of my students are entering the classroom for the first time as First Graders. Many did not have pre-school or day care experiences, so the amount of time lost and necessary to transition from subject to subject is substantial to their learning. A chair backpack will allow students to have frequently used supplies (such as personal whiteboards, magnetic erasers, manipulatives, etc.) that do not fit in their desk or in pencil/supply caddies within their reach to reduce the time spent passing out and putting away supplies. Students use Chromebooks in the classroom but require a headset with a microphone to engage in reading applications and as a resource to record and grade student story retelling (RL 1.2). Since we are still in a pandemic year it is important that all students have their own supplies to be used daily by the same student to reduce the potential spread of germs. Our school's mission is to challenge and empower all students by providing an enriched education with an emphasis on science, mathematics, and technology. To do so we need these supplies and resources to enrich these wonderful diverse students that come from all walks of life. Our students are ready and eager to learn, these few supplies will impact our daily learning in a major way by allowing us to focus on what matters most and that is time spent learning and engaging in the standards and contents each day with the tools to help students succeed.
