Fuel Students' Love for Reading with Manga and Murder Mystery!
Funded Jun 9, 2022I wanted to take a moment at the end of this school year to share a delayed thank you again for the books you have provided for our classroom. They are so loved and so appreciated.
Students were so excited to have new additions this year of manga titles and graphic novels. Our creative writing club used these new texts to inspire the creation of their own comics! These classroom library books will surely continue to be loved for years to come.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, and have a wonderful summer.”

Building a Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Classroom Library
Funded Aug 12, 2021Thank you, thank you, thank you for supporting our ELA9 classroom library. For all of my students, this year has marked a return to full-time in-person learning. This was anxiety inducing for many of my students, who were not only beginning school for the first time in person in over a year and a half, but who were also joining a new school community. With this in mind, I aspired to establish peaceful, productive classroom routines that engaged my students in literacy learning.
By far my biggest feedback from students so far is that independent reading is one of their favorite aspects of ELA class. Students enter the room asking: "Are we reading today?" Students also find joy in browsing classroom library books, especially my LGBTQ+ students, who now have access to dozens of texts that represent them.
Thank you for enabling me to build our classroom library with texts that reflect my students' lived experiences as well as texts that inspire them to empathize with those of others in our community. You have made the transition back to school easier and more peaceful. I am eager to connect students with more books now that excite their love for reading.”
With gratitude,
Mx. Mashkow
