Funded May 8, 2024The original intent was to create math bags for students to take home over the summer; however, by the time the project was funded the soonest I was able to get the materials was August. Therefore, I pivoted the intent to still work with families but instead of sending them home for the summer I am using the materials to create different activities for the families to do on a weekly basis.
With your support I was able to use the materials to make a variety of different bags to rotate every week. The families get the bags on Friday to work over the weekend on the bag and fill out the survey before returning. Each bag works on different skills and guide the families through different math activities.
For example, there are bags that work on counting out objects, bags that work on sorting materials and describing their attributes, bags that use pattern blocks to work on shapes and spatial relationships, bags that work on measurement, bags that work on comparing quantities and using comparative language, etc. My paraprofessionals and I create 20 bags at a time to rotate through 6 weeks so each week students receive a different activity and it gives us time to create the next 6 weeks worth of bags.
By working at home and at school these students will be ready for kindergarten! Included in the pictures are some examples of the math bags created so far with very brief descriptions. Sincerely these bags are having a huge impact on these families experiences and the exposure and opportunities the students are being given at home that would not have been possible without these materials. Thank you!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Raquel
