These books will help support weekly themes. Students will be able to read these books independently or be read aloud in my Teacher Reading Corner. Some of these books will also include a mini-lesson that will promote learning a specific standard or character trait. For example, in the first week of school, we will be reading "Our Class Is a Family", and right after, we will make a list of our class rules that my students will help come up with. This will encourage students to abide by these rules that they themselves came up with.
Some of these books will be taken home to read with their parent/guardian. This will help parents be part of what we are learning in class and also encourage reading at home. Parents can also be their child's teacher providing meaningful discussions.
Many of my students are English Language Learners and rely on picture books to help with understanding. This helps encourage reading independently. All in all, I want to offer my students a variety of books to select from.
