I am looking for ways to enhance a positive, learning classroom environment for my hard working students. My science curriculum provides many resources for lessons, but addresses no needs for enhancing a classroom environment. I utilized free, leftover supplies to create a mountain mural and colorful bulletin board, but many pieces are still needed. We need the fluorescent light covers to reduce headaches and eye strain. Neutral lighting does promote better focus, increase productivity, and add an exciting touch with different landscapes of clouds, mountains, seascapes, and beaches. A variety of pet plants improve air quality while teaching photosynthesis in action. Grow lights are needed because my classroom has a north facing window, bringing in the least amount of light. Succulents require 6 or more hours of sunlight and the costa farms plants pack vary in light requirements. Succulents need marble nuggets for proper soil drainage and a 12 inch planter bowl to grow in. Topics related to pet plants include our environmental change and light interaction chapters. A rolling cart provides an organized, dedicated place to store student supplies and turn in homework assignments. Pencils and notecards are for weekly vocabulary, tissues for allergies, and stickers for rewarding great accomplishments. My warm-up and closure activities include Kurzgesagt, an innovating, science education Youtube channel. Through the Kurzgesagt website, I ordered a poster bundle of the ocean floor biome, evolutionary map, world map, human body systems, and periodic table of elements. These high quality posters hang with wooden frames and command strips to prevent tape damage. Topics related to posters include the virtual evolutionary internship and the harnessing human energy and light waves units. Help me create a classroom environment that gets students excited to learn science.
