Coming back to the classroom after a year and a half of virtual learning will be an exciting and challenging adjustment for everyone. The items in this project are intended to cultivate a community environment where students can feel safe, seen, heard, and honored. The curriculum the students and I will be tackling this year will include novels such as The Giver by Lois Lowery and Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson. These novels will encourage students to challenge the norms of society and their own bias in order to grow. By creating an organized and cohesive classroom, my goal is to make this a space for students to take academic risks in order to grow and challenge themselves and the world around them.
