Black History Books
Funded Mar 30, 2023Students were able to open their eyes and lives to the lives of others. It was a great way to celebrate Black History Month, while working on comprehension skills and our reading abilities. We used the many colors provided in the crayon box to create works of art demonstrating the struggles, accomplishments and the stories told.
The best part was seeing the students who had never read a story about a person that looked like them. They were able to learn about the possible struggles their family members had face and how much as changed over time. We discussed as a class, what changes still need to be completed in order to create a beautiful future.
Thank you for giving and loving on my students as if they were your own.”

Funded Dec 1, 2022Thank you so much for the donations. I love seeing the students walking around with their tie dye shirts. With the number of donations we received, all the students were able to create color t-shirts and now they have something to show what teams they represent. I think the most inspirational moment was when a student approached me because he was so excited about getting something for Christmas. His family is going through a rough path and this t-shirt may be the only thing he will be receiving.
At first they were pretty unsure about what the project would end up being. Majority of them have never made these types of shirts and of course, of course they did not want theirs to look bad. After, they had fun looking up the different designs and picking their colors. They had a blast.
We are give the students points every time they wear their shirts on spirit days. The winning teams, will receive a party at the end of the year.”

Funded Mar 12, 2022Thank you so much for the love and support. The students are able to enjoy their learning experience in comfort. The goal was to be able to provide a place for my students who need extra tutoring time, to receive the extra attention they need and be able to eat and work. Prior to the new resources my students would have to warm up their meals in the lunch area and that would take time away from their tutoring time. Now they can warm up their meals in my class and use all the tutoring time they needed.
What I noticed was many of my students would have little snacks but had difficulty keeping the classroom clean and being able to enjoy their snacks. Now with plates, bowls, spoons and forks, the students can pull out their snacks without the fear of food dropping or leaving a mess.
The bean bag area is going and I can not keep the students from wanting to sit there during lessons. It is now an official reading area and a recovery zone. The students will use the yoga mat to stretch and sometimes rest their minds between lessons. My next step would be making the entire classroom into a recovery zone and a safe space for all students school wide.”

Funded Nov 30, 2021Basketball has always been a way for me to teach hard work and dedication to young ladies. Sadly, girls basketball does not always receive the support and resources as other sports do. Times are changing and I am excited about the direction it is going. Our first year the only balls we had to practice with were the PE ones because they were smaller. I had to come out of my pocket to get the girls appropriate basketballs. With the donations not only were we able to have new balls but enough that each girl had their own.
When the girls walked in to the gym and saw a bin of balls, pumped and ready to go, I promise I have never seen they work so hard at practice. The funniest moment was watching them excitedly put on the practice jerseys during 5 on 5.
Season is a blast watching them grow and learn. They are currently 7-1 and heading to the play-offs as a top seed. This group is very special and with your love and support they are really believing it.”

Funded Aug 27, 2021I am coming into my second year instructing yoga at San Tan Charter School. My greatest struggle the first year was finding a way to make yoga entertaining and impactful to my students. Majority of the students have only seen yoga done on television or have just heard of yoga. My goal was for yoga to one day become a big part of their lives.
I have heard from my students how stressful their lives are and or how depressed they feel everyday, but this has changed dramatically since joining the class. Students now have a safe place to relax and forget about some of their worries, even just for the 40 minutes in my class.
The gifts of yoga mats have made it easier for some of our deeper stretches. Before students would complain about the hard floor on their knees and that caused many of them not to want to fully participate. On certain days we do a meditation with a guided instructor, this is when we use the speaker. Lastly, we have been working on building our core and leg strength with the bands.
There are only so many words that can fully explain how thankful we are. We are learning to grow, learning, to calm our minds, and of course learning to be the best version of ourselves.”
