I have many students in my room daily to get help with their classwork. Students are assigned to me for 80 minutes a day, and during this time I can reteach skills, build relationships, help build confidence in their abilities, and help them finish homework. My class is more relaxed than their others and less structured because it is a resource class, or study hall, specifically for students who are receiving special education services. With the seating I have picked out, students will have a calmer and more relaxed environment so they can work at their own pace. Not all students do well with a chair and desk, so I will be changing the seating around so students can choose where they want to sit that is best for them. By having a variety of options for seating, I am anticipating a lot of different seating needs my students to have. With the materials for flexible seating, I am hoping to make my classroom environment feel calm to my students, I am hoping to make it feel like their own, and I am hoping to develop a welcoming and student-centered environment. The goal with flexible seating in my classroom is for students to learn how to make decisions that are best for them on their own, to increase the focus and engagement with the content they are working on, and to provide sensory input a student might need.
