As a teacher, I can play the role of a conductor on my students’ journeys through reading. Unfortunately, many of my students do not have consistent access to books outside of school or the support that is engaged in their reading. This year is my first year and my library is bare but with the acquisition of these chapter books, we can challenge my scholars to explore different genres, characters, and storylines. These books can open my students to new possibilities and spark curiosity through fictional characters while also introducing them to relatable people from history through nonfictional literature. I hope my students can adopt a love for reading that they carry with them throughout their schooling and beyond. When we read, we find new ways to empathize, are more creative, and are consistently inspired to learn and dream.
