  • Scholastic Is Fantastic

    Funded Jun 5, 2014

The Scholastic magazines are helping our students in such profound ways and I want to thank you for the impact that you have made on our class. Each week the students are learning amazing new things about science, social studies, values and current events. This magazine has promoted the best conversations in our class. Conversations that are not just teacher driven but are conversations where students are responding to other students. This magazine is among the highlights of the week for the students and for many it's their first "collection" of anything. They keep them in a binder and often refer back to them. Thank you again for your generosity and dedication to our students. You have done a wonderful thing for us!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. DeFelice

  • Microphones... Can You Hear Us?

    Funded Sep 23, 2013

Thank you so much for your generosity and the wonderful, amazing gift that you have given our class. These microphones have already begun to change the dynamic of our class. We started practicing for a show that we want to do for the entire second grade and parents ( about 250 people). The students are getting comfortable with the microphones and are really letting loose. I see their confidence improving each day and the classroom community has improved dramatically. The students love them and they love using them.”

  • Artists Without Supplies

    Funded Aug 28, 2013

Thank you again for inspiring New York City students! The clay has been both wonderful and telling. The students enjoy experimenting with the clay and I am just flabbergasted by the amazing models that they have created. I am learning so much about them just from watching them work and how they are able to mold blocks of clay into stunning works of art. I was expecting them to make pizzas and cookies but they are creating flowers, birds, nests, book characters and more. The students will now be using their expertise to write informational books on clay molding. Thank you for your donation.”

  • Artist Without Supplies!

    Funded Feb 1, 2013

I am so grateful that you chose this project. This act of kindness will be continuously beneficial to the students. They were so thrilled when I showed them the incredible supplies that you purchased for them. I have many wonderful projects lined up for the rest of this year and now because of you we will be doing all of them! Today we made and decorated Valentine's Day cards and they look great. Your generosity and understanding of the importance of art in education warms my heart. I will think of you each time the students are immersed in another project because your help made it happen for them. Thank you so much for what you did for us!!”

  • Learning Lacrosse

    Funded Dec 31, 2012

What a wonderful, amazing gift you have all given to my students! We have been using the lacross equipment for a couple of weeks and the students have learned how to scoop, hold the ball, pass and shoot. I've discovered that there are some serious athletes who are quite good at this sport. All of the kids love playing this sport and they have demonstrated great sportmanship throughout the learning process. My principal came in to watch the kids play the other day and he was so pleased. He said, " This is the first time in the history of our school that lacross is being taught during gym class." You have all made a great contribution to our school and I am forever grateful.”

  • Children's Magazines = Improved Reading Skills!

    Funded Aug 13, 2012

Thank you so much for your gift to our classroom. Talk about the gift that keeps on giving! Twice a week these students are treated to the wonderful world of nonfiction reading and real world topics. The discussions and questions that have arose have been insightful and thought provoking. The magazines have quickly become one of the highlights of the week for the students. I "hole punch" each issue and they save them in a soft binder that is exclusively used for the magazines. They love that they have a collection. Each week we are reminded of what you did for us. Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

  • Artist Without Materials

    Funded Aug 31, 2012

Thank you once again for your incredible donation! Let me tell you what it has done for our class. I read them The Lorax by Dr. Seuss and they were shocked, sad, appalled and angry that the land was destroyed. It led to a wonderful discussion about protecting the environment. Some students had amazing thoughts and they shared them in such a profound way. They each wrote an essay about the importance of the environment. After that they created the truffle trees using the supplies that you donated. Tree branches, clay, cotton balls and paint put together never looked so great! The glue tubes you provided have been so helpful during art projects. The beads have been used to decorate writing pieces and they look dazzling. Thank you again for your generosity. It has made a big difference to the students.”

Some students had amazing thoughts and they shared them in such a profound way. They each wrote an essay about the importance of the environment. After that they created the truffle trees using branches, clay, cotton balls and paint. Next I read them The Butter battle book. It was much of the same reaction. The basket of Dr. Seuss books is the most popular in the class. You have created life long Dr. Seuss fans! I'll never forget your generosity.”

This is a school that is located in Long Island City, New York. We are a Title One school and the students come from low income housing. Many of our students have recently migrated to New York and every student in our school receives free breakfast and lunch. Our school houses over 600 students and they need all of the extra support that your donations supply. Our physical education equipment is meager and outdated. Often we have to skip lessons and units in physical education because we do not have the proper equipment.
