The time that students have missed in class due to Covid is extremely evident in their progression of math. Students are struggling daily to grasp concepts that should already be ingrained in their minds. I am in desperate need of dry erase tables so I can work with students in small groups and help them grasp how to work through all math problems-addition, subtraction, double digit multiplication, and long division. Having the ability to gather in one location will allow me to monitor the progress of struggling students. I will be able to give instant feedback and quickly identify each students’ strengths and weaknesses in math, therefore closing the gaps in their learning. Having this dry-erase table will allow me to make corrections as students practice the topic being taught and help struggling students become more successful so they can see progress in math. Not only will working with struggling students in small groups help them academically, it will also boost my student's confidence. Working in small groups allows me to build relationships and trust with each student and creates a more individualized learning environment in which the kids want to work harder to learn the material. Being a first year teacher, I am still trying to build my classroom resources which include manipulatives, games, and workbooks. Finding relevant workbooks that support each math topic is essential. Flashcards will allow students to practice their basic facts during their spare time, which will strengthen their ability to work multiplication and division problems. Math games is another way to support and promote student learning in a more relaxed setting. Having three dimensional figures, in which students can learn hands-on, will bring geometry to life and drive home the concepts being taught.
