• Crafting Confidence Through Sensory and Literacy Tools!

  We are beyond grateful for the amazing materials provided through your generous donations! These resources have already made a big impact in our classroom, bringing hands-on learning and creativity to life.

  One of our favorite classroom moments so far was using the Kaplan Early Learning Sensory Literacy Kit and Playfoam Pluffle during a small group literacy lesson. My students, many of whom have sensory needs, loved using the Playfoam to shape letters while practicing phonics skills. It helped them stay engaged while reinforcing letter sounds in a way that was both fun and meaningful.

  The Roylco Lower Case Lacing Letter Beads have also been a fantastic tool for fine motor and literacy development. One of my students, who struggles with letter recognition, was so proud when he successfully laced and read out a simple CVC word!”

The sensory tools have provided soothing relief during moments of frustration or overstimulation. For instance, during a social skills lesson, students used fidget tools to stay calm and focused as we practiced taking turns and expressing emotions.

  We're excited to take these tools to the next level by integrating them into a sensory-focused project called "Sensory Fun for Leading and Growth." In this project, students will explore how different textures, sounds, and movements can help regulate their emotions and improve their focus. For example, they'll work in small groups to create their own calming sensory bottles, combining art, science, and social skills.

  The disinfecting wipes, tissues, and hand sanitizers have been crucial in maintaining a safe and clean environment, especially with so many little hands at work every day. We've made it a daily routine to clean up our space together, which has taught the students responsibility and respect for our classroom. They understand that keeping their area tidy helps keep everyone healthy, which is a lesson they're carrying beyond our classroom, too.

  With supplies like the paper towels, pens, scissors, and packing tape, we're ready for some upcoming craft and project days.   We're using these snacks daily to support our students' focus and engagement, especially during long days. For some of my students, who may not always have access to a full breakfast or who feel hungry throughout the day, these snacks have been a lifesaver, giving them the energy to concentrate and participate actively in our lessons.

  One of our favorite routines is our "Refuel and Reflect" break, where students get to choose a snack and spend a few quiet moments before we dive into our next activity. This has become a time to decompress, recharge, and even bond over shared favorites like Goldfish crackers or Nutri-Grain bars.”
