Aa a school-based SLP, some call me the "speech teacher," "speech therapist," or a "speech-language pathologist." Regardless of the title, I just know that I finished my 23rd year educating children! In February 2021, my district moved me from two high schools in hybrid learning mode to an elementary school with 95% virtual learning. Eventually, I ended the year serving 19 students via Zoom and 46 students in person, each week. Once switched to elementary, I was given one week to acclimate/schedule and contact parents, and then begin lessons. Challenging? Yes!!! Secondary and elementary education require very different approaches and resources. I love my new school, and the staff and students are wonderful. However, I took over a caseload of 65 student with special needs...midyear, during THE TOUGHEST SCHOOL YEAR in our lifetime, without many of the materials needed to target the numerous IEP goals that drive my teaching. I am asking for help to equip my classroom with specific tools. I want to ensure that when I return in August to begin a full, "normal?" school year, that the students will have verbal/visual/tactile supports that empower me to teach exciting and dynamic lessons for this age group! Knowing their needs and speech-language goals, these supplies will assist in student learning and comprehension/use of language-based curriculum in all grades- YAY! I desire to support students in their general and special education classrooms, so a mobile cart will help me take my classroom "on wheels" directly to the students throughout the week. This will also allow me to provide real-life, professional development to the teachers with whom I collaborate, as they watch my specialized interventions and model best practice for speech-language development. The TPT gift cards will provide digital resources and homework packets. Thank you for your consideration and assistance!
