Using research based practice from Peter Liljedahl and implementing strategies in order to create a thinking mathematics classroom, the dry erase boards will help students move beyond rote memorization and mimicking lessons. According to Peter Liljedahl, "thinking is a necessary precursor to learning, and if students are not thinking they are not learning." Using dry erase boards for students to collaboratively work on math problems will create an optimal learner-centered, student-owned math thinking environment. Students will work in groups of three, engaged in deep thinking mathematics and will productively struggle, while engaged in meaning conversations, with group members, to solve real-world problems.
