  • Learning to Get Organized and Tell Time!

    Funded Mar 5, 2024

Thank you again for your generous donation for our classroom. We received mini clocks to help us with our math lessons learning time; multi-colored folders to help us get organized with each of our subjects; and organizing bins for our classroom library.

These tools have had a tremendous, positive impact on my students. They were able to each receive an individual mini-clock which helped them significantly during our math lessons on learning to tell time. Our lessons included learning to tell time to the hour and the half hour. My students were able to utilize the clocks as they learned to tell time, moving the hour and minute hands into the right positions for the hour and the half-hour. They used them every day with each lesson throughout our unit and it helped them identify the minute and hour hands and what time it is when each of them are in specific positions.

The multi-colored folders have had a significant impact on my students' organization. Each of their papers now have their own colored folder and they are able to easily find what they need. As our writing packets grow from pre-writes to rough drafts and final copies, they are able to keep all of their materials in one specific colored folder making it easy for them to find everything the need. For math, everyone now has their own folder to maintain a laminated copy of their hundred chart, a number line, and their daily quick check tracking chart to see their progress of how well they did on their own after the math lesson for the day.

The organizational bins have been very helpful in keeping our classroom library set up neatly and better organized. Students are able to find books much easier now that we have everything arranged and they do a much better job at putting them away neatly in the bins instead of just laying them down on the shelves.

Thank you again for your support of our classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Fain

  • Wobbling Our Way Toward Learning!

    Funded Jan 1, 2024

Thank you for your generous donations that have allowed me to obtain flexible seating for my classroom. This has made a tremendous impact on my students in a very positive way. They were very curious when they first saw the chairs and asked a lot of questions. We were able to sit together and discuss how we would use them, that they are tools and not toys, and they need to be earned and respected. This has given me a great opportunity to teach my students responsibility.

In my classroom, students have the opportunity to earn flexible seating each day and as a result of earning this reward, there has been marked improvement in behavior among my class. Everyone wants a chance at those wobble chairs! They are also learning the importance of sharing as we have more students than chairs. In fact, one of my students proposed that those who earned the chairs in the morning, trade off in the afternoon with others who have not had a chance to use them yet that day. It has worked out very well for my class!

Lastly, these have allowed my students who struggle to sit still, to stay in motion while still being able to focus on their schoolwork and learning. It has been a win-win for everyone!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Fain

As a first-year teacher, I do not have a lot of books for my students to read in our classroom. When students have the opportunity, they love free-reading time and would actually prefer to read books from our book nook over working on their Chromebooks doing any kind of reading. By providing a variety of books for my students with different interests and different reading levels, my higher students can be more challenged and my struggling readers can have access to books that they can read independently. These books can play a crucial role in my students' academic reading growth as we can utilize and incorporate them during free reading time, during small group work, and during our intervention block.
