Do You Want To Read a Book? We Do!
Funded Apr 25, 2019My students loved listening to my partner and I read from the book, Tornado. Another way we read the book in class was with a partner. They enjoyed making predictions and inferences as we read the book also. The stories that Pete told about his dog, Tornado were really cute especially the one about the turtle. They all thought that Tornado was harmless in the situation. If you've never read the book, you should.
Besides making predictions and inferences as we read, we also sequenced events in each chapter and analyzed two of the characters, Pete and Tornado. One of my students liked that the family found Tornado because he landed at their house during a Tornado. She said that she felt like the family was always smiling when Tornado was around. Another student shared that her favorite part of the story was that the family was able to keep the dog for seven years.
Overall, I think reading the story was a fun adventure for the class.”

Do You Want to Read a Book? We Do!
Funded Feb 9, 2015I wanted to send my thanks for making this project happen. My students loved reading, Island of the Blue Dolphins! We would read 2-3 chapters a day, and they would always want to keep reading more.
They enjoyed predicting what would happen next as they read about Karana's journey on the island. Many of the students thought it was great that she connected so well with the different animals. They participated in discussions about Karana's character traits and compared the different characters in the book.
It was a great experience for me to actually read a novel with my students and get to see there reactions to all of the events that took place throughout the books.
This was an enjoyable experience for all!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Maw
