This year is a year unlike any other with students returning to school after struggling to understand why they couldn't attend because of COVID. Students are having to reacclimate themselves which can cause high levels of anxiety. Not to mention the struggles to stay constantly engaged in the classroom because learning virtually is so much different than face to face. My passion is to develop a space within our building where students can come to explore, discover, create, and problem solve. I want to create a "Think Tank". In this space, our students will learn through the use of their imagination and play. The makerspace environment that we are developing allows for our students to use origami paper, building blocks, programable robots and other resources to become "makers" to strengthen their critical thinking and problem-solving skills while working as engineers in the process. Within the walls, our students will have to show: flexibility, collaboration, adaptability, oral and written communication, information and technology literacy leadership and social skills I am in hopes to be able to fund this space to bring in a variety of options for my students to have a choice, a voice that allows their special interest to shine, as well as to help them make new discoveries through exploration. I want my students to find a passion that they can't wait to dig deeper into and share with others.
