Weird Science
Funded Sep 23, 2024Thank you so much for your support of my project Weird Science. My students have loved learning about growing things using our hydroponics garden. So far we have grown lettuce for our salad and herbs for the meals we cook. We have cherry tomatoes growing but haven't produced anything yet. The students love to come in and see how things are progressing. Our classroom aquarium sits close to our hydroponics garden and our fish also love eating the lettuce we grew.
We are learning to use the microscope and slides, which are a perfect fit for our classroom. We have examined a cross-section of frog eggs, snake skin, horse hair, and several others. This has been such a fun learning experience for my students.
Thank you again for supporting my special needs classroom and all you do for education.”

Funded Sep 6, 2023Thank you so much for donating to my project "Pop Goes the Kernal". This project is designed to help my students with special needs develop customer service skills and business skills. We make the popcorn to sell to the students during lunch. The students are responsible for making the popcorn, bagging the popcorn, and selling the popcorn. This also includes taking the money and making change. I believe that it is important for students to learn these types of business skills especially students with special needs. These skills will help them be able to get a job after high school. Thank you again for supporting my project and for all you do for teachers everywhere.”

Funded Aug 16, 2023Thank you so much for supporting my project. This project has helped several students in my school who just get to feeling overwhelmed and need a place to calm down. We have made the space available to all the high school students to have a calm space. Several students have taken advantage of it as a space to work quietly and catch their breath.
Our mental health is so very important and we need to find a way to reduce anxiety. This project, "Calm, Cool. and Collected", gives the students a way to do just that. It provides a neutral space for students to decompress and reduce their anxiety and stress. I wanted to provide my students and others in my high school with a calm space to work. I believe with the cool tones of the carpet and furnishings we can help calm their anxieties. The wobble stools help the students focus on staying upright instead of whatever is worrying them. this is great for helping to reduce anxiety.
Thank you again for all your support and for donating to this project. I look forward to seeing the materials used in a positive way at my school.”

Funded Feb 17, 2023Thank you so much for your generous donation to my project Math Basics. My SPED students enjoy math much better with properly working calculators. We use them every day. I know that many prefer their students to learn math in their head, but sometimes we just aren't able to do that and great calculators help us learn.
Thank you also for the whiteboard erasers and markers. We use these every day as well. We learn to write out our math problems on the whiteboard and then copy them to our paper so that we can see if we have any mistakes.
Thank you again for supporting education by making a donation to my project Math Basics.”

Spy Gadgets in Writing Class
Funded Nov 3, 2022Thank you so much for your donation for my project "Spy Gadgets in Writing Class". This project has helped several of my students who have dysgraphia and dyslexia take notes and be able to attend Technology Center classes. It has also helped some of my students that take concurrent college classes stay up with their lectures and remember what was said. The pencil grips help my students hold their pencils and improve their writing skills. Again, thank you so very much for your support not only for my project but also for the continuing education of my many students.”

More Than Just Academics
Funded Feb 8, 2022Thank you so much for your support of my classroom project " More than Academics". This project provided Special Olympics equipment for students. This helped up to be able to practice and prepare for the various Special Olympics events.
We also received life skills equipment such as our shredder and money counters. These items will help my students to learn valuable life skills that they may not get outside of my classroom.
My students have liked to learn how to use the equipment and we have used them to set up jobs within the classroom. My students run a coffee and cookie business from our classroom on Fridays. My students take the orders, fill the orders, deliver the orders, and take payment. They use the money counters to count the money for deposit at the end of the day. Thank you again for your support and for helping my students learn new skills.”

Funded Jul 20, 2021Thank you so much for funding my project "Coffee Anyone?". This project has allowed my students to learn valuable life skills that they might not be able to learn safely outside of the classroom. My students are responsible for taking the orders, filling the orders, delivering the orders, and collecting payment. The only thing I do now that they have learned to run the coffee business is print off the orders.
Every Thursday we send out the order form to all of the teachers at our school. On Friday morning, I print off the order form and give the printout to my students. They get to work. The students will look at each order. They will then write a label to stick on the coffee cup lid, just like you might find at a fancy coffee shop. The next student will get the coffee, tea, or hot chocolate ready. They add baggies with the necessary extras such as creamer or sugar. Finally, a student organizes which orders go to which building and then delivers the orders. Payment is made upon receipt of the coffee. I have a student who is in charge of counting up our profits. So far my students have made over $350 which goes back to help us buy supplies. None of this would have even been possible without your generous help.
When my students first saw the materials for the project, they weren't sure that they could do it. They were also very skeptical of the project. We had some bumps along the way, but now they love doing it and eagerly ask me to print off the orders on Friday morning. One Friday morning, just before Halloween, we had to be somewhere and so we did not do our coffee orders. Yes, the teachers were disappointed, but to my shock and surprise so were the students.
One of my students is especially shy and does not have a lot of social skills. Thanks to this project, he will willingly talk to our customers and even count change back to them. For this student, that is a huge step from where he was last year. Several of my special needs students have improved socially just because of this coffee project. Another student was out shopping with her parents. They stopped to get a coffee from a local coffee shop. She watched the barista make the coffee and walked her through each step just like we do in our classroom. The barista was impressed and asked her if she wanted a job.
Donors, thank you so much for donating to my project. You are helping to change the lives of students with special needs and help them to find their place in our community. Without you, our success would have still come, but it would have been a whole lot harder. Thank you again for your support.”
