The 3d printer will be used to expand upon accessing school activities by creating tactile communication symbols to help students with vision deficit communicate and customized tools to help students accesses all aspects of their classroom curriculum. As a speech and language therapist, ensuring that all my students have methods of communicating is extremely important. My students with vision deficits need customized tactile 3d symbols to help give them a voice and make choices. Tactile/Object schedules can also be printed for students with visual and cognitive disabilities that allow them to better understand their day and help with transitioning between activities. Everyday tools were not designed for my students and additional supports, which can be 3d printed, are necessary to help students access all classroom activities. These include kitchen tools to allow students explore math in a fun and delicious way, grip supports to hold pencils to assist with writing, and stylus for iPads to access the many different applications available to learn from. With the amazing online community of people creating files of adapted tools to 3d print, the possibilities are endless. I just have to create the tools my students need and watch the amazing things they can do.
